A MINIATURE GUIDE TO HIGH POINT MARKET

This spring we’re taking a break from High Point Market for the first time in 4 years! But, after attending many markets we have learned a thing or two. So whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned veteran, we've put together this mini guide to help enhance your market experience.

HOT TIPS

  • Passes- These should’ve been mailed to you, but if you’ve misplaced them it will cost you $30 to have it printed on site UNLESS you go to the main IHFC building. We’ve seen them print passes for free there, but you didn’t hear that from us! A buyer's pass will also get you free parking in the buyer's lot.

  • Parking- We like to park in the lot at the High Point Arts Council. You can pay to park for the week and it’s within walking distance of the main building. A lot of local residents will also let you park in their front yard for a smaller rate. We’ve done it before and it turned out to be fine!

  • Go off the beaten path!- Our favorite off-site show rooms are Red Egg, Verellen, Cohab, Schwung, Chelsea on Green and Texture. You won’t regret it!

  • Best spots for food- High Point Market has food trucks and restaurants on site, but there are also a lot of great showrooms that provide breakfast, lunch, and late afternoon snacks if you want to skip the lines. In our opinion, the Universal Showroom always has the best spread, but if you want to skip the crowds head over the basement at Essentials for Living!

  • Planning- We always use the High Point Market App to plan which showrooms and panels we want to go to, but we always make sure to add our plans into our ical/google calendar. The HPMKT app has a map so you can map out proximity from event to event and your calendar can help you stay on a schedule so you don’t spend your whole day in one showroom.

Packing Essentials

  • Sneakers- You are going to get your steps in at market so make sure that your footwear is comfortable and worn in. While we do like to always look our best we make sure to pair our outfits with a nice sneaker.

  • Layers- Bring a lightweight sweater to wrap over your shoulders. Maybe it’s because we’re from Florida, but we get a little chilly in the late afternoon when we’re walking from one building to the next.

  • Small crossbody- Ditch your big bag and grab a tote on your way into the IHFC building. Throw all samples into that bag as you move around market to stay hands free. All you really need is you wallet, phone, and business cards.

  • Charging Block- Everything is content so make sure that you’re filming and being filmed. Your battery will drain quicker than you think so bring a charging back up and any necessary cords or else you’ll be running around town searching for a walgreens only to buy a charging block with no charge… speaking from experience.

  • Digital business cards- We think everyone should have these, but they are especially important at market. You can exchange contact information without collecting or wasting a ton of paper.

Getting Around

High Point Market is my favorite little city within a city - there's nothing quite like it. But getting there can be a bit of a journey in itself. To help make your transportation as seamless as possible, here are some tips:

  • Airport Shuttles- The fabulous airport shuttles are a lifesaver for getting you from RDU and CLT to High Point, but MAKE A RESERVATION- If you don’t make a reservation you’re not getting on the bus so follow the link and save it in case you miss your bus. Departures run every hour on the hour! Don’t worry about your bags when you get off the bus. You’ll be able to check them at IHFC and then pick them up before you leave for your hotel!

  • Car Rentals- If you don’t love being tied down to a schedule then renting a car is going to be your best option, but make sure you make your reservation well before you land or they will run out of cars!

  • Hotel Shuttles- Save this link if you plan on using a shuttle to get to and from your hotel!

  • Inside High Point Market

    • Park and Ride Shuttles- These have saved us  from mindlessly driving in circles trying to find parking. If you rented a car and didn’t get to market at the crack of dawn to find parking then park in this lot and take the shuttle.

    • Downtown Shuttles- These will take you to different areas within high point market. We usually walk everywhere, but we’ve hopped on a couple of times.

Go-Anywhere- This is our favorite shuttle because it takes you to all of the “off the beaten path” showrooms that we absolutely love. Save this number 336.887.RIDE (7433) to call for a ride!
